Historic Leesburg, Virginia - the county seat of Loudoun County - is located at the base of the beautiful Catoctin Mountains and the elbow bend of the Potomac River.  Our office building - 4 Cornwall Street NE - was built in 1825. In the 1830s, Richard Henderson used this brick Federal-style building as his law office. The site would have been exceptionally convenient for him because the courthouse stood less than a block away, and Henderson lived next door at 10 Cornwall Street NE. In addition to being a lawyer, Henderson was active in Virginia politics, serving as one of three delegates to the Virginia Constitutional Convention of 1829-1830. In the 1820s and 1830s, he helped begin at least two companies that intended to boost Leesburg's economy by improving transportation between Leesburg and markets to the west and east.

In 1845, John Janney purchased the office, as well as the house at 10 Cornwall Street, from Henderson's widow, Orra Moore Henderson. Janney practiced law at 4 Cornwall Street well into the 1860s. Following Janney's death in 1872, the property passed to Janney's nephew and the Presbyterian clergyman John F. Cannon, who used the building as an office.

In 1960, William J. Cox, an engineer, bought the building from the estate of Lilias Janney.

In 1998, William B. Hanes, an accomplished attorney, purchased 4 Cornwall Street, where he eventually started an estate and trust planning law firm, Hanes & Dickerson, with his stepdaughter, Mindy.

In 2024, Evan Unzelman, the founder and CEO of CRT Experts, purchased 4 Cornwall Street from the estate of William B. Hanes.

We are proud of our building's history and look forward to

honoring and preserving it for many years to come.
